Social Media today is all about communication, networking, sharing, helping, contributing and lot more. It essentially started as a networking tool that made sharing and communication easier. But, with time and with difference in social media behavior there are now opinions and discussions on how to behave on social media to obtain fan following, credibility and rejoicing thought leaderships. I personally approached to social media actions from professional perspective on LinkedIn, twitter and facebook. The below mentioned 25 point are behaviors that can help you popularize yourself and essentially obtain you create positive and professional impressions.
- Be unique and different this will help you make a difference in the crowd.
- Don’t generalize your messages, focus on something that you or your company is known for.
- Never be serious. Break down your messages to simple language that is easy to understand for audience.
- Be honest. If you think you can lie and create a buzz, that may create hype for sometime but later you may no more be wanted or loose your credibility.
- If you are on behalf of your company then listen to customers. If they are complaining accept it and solve it rather defend it.
- Be what you are and do not pretend to be someone else.
- Contribute to the community, share your knowledge.
- As content is the king offer something interesting to read.
- Let people know you have written something to make it valuable.
- Ask questions that can help you initiate conversation of your interest.
- Comment on the blog posts you read. Make the writer realize there was a unique visitor.
- Answer queries and doubts of people.
- Do not butter, if you think your point is right put it across. Let it create a controversy. This may attract attention of lot more people.
- Don’t just be present, be active.
- Think before you speak. Be original and don’t fake.
- If you're not passionate and knowledgeable about the topic that you're writing about, DON'T write about it. It will not make sense and damage your reputation.
- Offer something humorous too. Making people laugh is good way to attract people.
- Do not be rude.
- Don’t be offensive.
- Do not be just personal or gossip queen.
- Do not be just be professional and offer your corporate insights. Try being a combination of personal and professional on media.
- Reply to comment on your blog posts. At least thank them to let them know you care about your blog readers.
- Create a new connection everyday.
- Do not waste time in discussions that has no logic as many create problems for their entertainment and publicity.
