Editorial – March 2010

Ayubowan, welcome to the second issue in the second volume of the online IT magazine diGIT. February was indeed a very short month and days passed by too soon. Nevertheless our contributors were with us to ensure that we got out another good magazine issue for our loyal readers of diGIT.

Last month we introduced a sticker to promote the magazine and I hope some of you may have noticed it being pasted on buses. We were also able to paste them at selected net cafes in Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Matara and some other areas. Let us know if you would like a sticker to proudly paste in a public place so that we can get many more readers so that they would be able to gain some knowledge in IT.

I hope you also remember about our IT labs project, do have a look at it and see whether you can help out. Why not pass the details to some of your colleagues who may find it useful. Visit http://digit.lk/itlab

We have a number of local IT buzz information which you may find very interesting. They include details about a chrome extension for twitter called conwitter. Then there is a recently released website called afteralevel.com which provides information to courses available for students. There is also a writeup on an entertainment website which was long overdue. Films.lk contains a database of almost all Sri Lankan films released upto now and is a good source for film buffs. Its great to see such sites coming up and lets hope for more local content on the web.

Udaya gives us a good article on the GO language of Google. Do check out and see how it compares with other languages that exist.

Harsha gives us another good article on Joomla. This month he focuses on templates and there is also a bonus for our readers as Harsha gives our beloved readers a small gift. Do check his article to see what it is.

Gaurav gives us another good article on algorithms this time focusing on search algorithms and hash tables. Do check his article and also see if you can do the tasks given by him at the end of the article. Its worth doing to get to grip with understanding algorithms.

As always, you can get in touch with us by sending an email to comments@digit.lk. We would love to hear from our readers and fans.

Let me end this month’s editorial with a quotation by Esther Dyson who once said

‘It may not always be profitable at first for businesses to be online, but it is certainly going to be unprofitable not to be online.’

Happy reading!
